SEEDS: Ecology Careers Panel
Connect with a diverse group of ecology professionals from academia to consulting and learn about their jobs and their journey.
Panelists:
1. Adriana L. Romero-Olivares, Ph.D. Adriana is a Latinx Assistant Professor at New Mexico State University, she studies fungi and how they respond and adapt to global climate change.
2. Sarah Anderson. Sarah works as an ecologist for the Forest Service living in Washington, DC and loves to hike, run, cook, and bake.
3. Michelle Nelson. Michelle currently works as the Community Garden Program Manager with Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission. In her role, she sees herself as a food systems planner, ecologist, knowledge seeker, and life learner. She started her journey as a kid – always exploring nature and always enjoying the endless connections of life.
4. Tim Nuttle is a principal and senior ecologist at Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc., in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Tim is a systems and restoration ecologist, whose primary focuses are ecosystem restoration (streams, wetlands, forests), green stormwater infrastructure, and urban ecology. These projects involve collaboration between ecologists, geologists, engineers, and landscape architects. Tim has been an active member of ESA since 2000, having served as board member and chair of the Traditional Ecological Knowledge Section.
5. Jeramie Strickland. Jeramie is the Manager of Education and Community Outreach at Openlands. He is responsible for managing education and outreach projects that are associated with Openlands community conservation programs. Prior to joining the Openlands family, he served as a Wildlife Biologist for 10 years with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service on a National Wildlife Refuge. Jeramie is passionate about developing programs that engage communities from diverse backgrounds to help them appreciate green spaces, nature, and conservation. Jeramie is originally from Chicago and is thrilled to be back home to serve his community.
